In 1924, Château Coufran was very much a Cabernet Sauvignon wine that was practically impossible to sell during the major crises. Louis Miailhe therefore decided to replant the whole vineyard with the Merlot grape variety. That originality has been maintained: the blend of the most recent vintages still revolves around 85% Merlot. The journalist who one day qualified Coufran as the "Pomerol of the Médoc" probably gave the best possible definition.
